I - Ingroup and outgroup thinking

Why do people often view their own group more positively than other groups?

I - INGROUP AND OUTGROUP THINKING Why people often judge their own group more positively than other groups "We have the truth." "We are God's people." "We receive God's spirit." "We are going to be saved." "The rest doesn't get it." But also: Muslims; Christians; Hindus; atheists; political parties; conspiracy groups. Suppose two elementary schools compete against each other. The children from school A think their school is better. The children from school B think their school is better. Both groups feel connected to their own group. That is very human. Scientifically, this is one of the most extensively studied topics in social psychology. Henri Tajfel – Social Identity Theory (the founder of the theory of ingroups and outgroups). Muzafer Sherif – Robbers Cave Experiment , which showed how quickly groups can develop an "us-versus-them" feeling and how cooperation can reduce it again.
